Howard Lederer was born into in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed participating in numerous card games when he was young. He found himself becoming very competitive in these particular card games as he was playing his father. After finishing Sr. High school, Howard made a decision to put college on hold for a bit and moved to New York City to play some formidable chess. While playing chess, he was introduced to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s first 2 years were difficult as he would play extensive hours and fail to win a majority of the time. He made some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker enthusiasts. He judged he possibly could better his game by balancing his life away from poker. He made an effort to acquire more sleep and focus attention more on poker.
The actual advancement in his skills happened when he started playing at the Mayfair Club in New York. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the the most favorable players would regularly challenge each other. Howard had access into some of the best players in chess. With their help, Howard Lederer would tweak his cunning thinking abilities. Howard applied these strategy concepts to the game of NL Texas Holdem.
Howard Lederer also assisted his sister Annie Duke master the game of poker. Annie was a superb student of poker as she would always be asking questions about how to make the correct decision. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to move out to Vegas and play in the WSOP competition. She is one of the best women players the poker arena ever. He headed to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and participated in money games for the successive decade. When the World Poker Tournament grew in popularity, he decided to compete in more tournaments.
