Internet Big Stakes Poker- Who is Gus Hansen?

Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only gambler to make it to the final table in 3 of the events. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on The Game Show Network where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history up against Daniel Negreanu. Gus secured a large pot with 4 of a kind against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the strongest enthusiasts around the world. While gambling on net poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus frequently competes in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of Forty Thousand dollars. Hansen generally buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very weak. He waits for a decent hand and then pushes all in. I believe Hansen is an excellent poker player but certainly not even close to the everyday players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is flat broke, he has no reason to play at the table with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the min takes a majority of the ability out of deep stack poker. Gus is accepted to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he can’t buy-in for the full amt.. I think tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The best poker players anywhere in the world might be guys you have never heard of before. Gus can be found competing in net poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his skills in money games?
