Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is often times viewed as one of the most difficult but popular poker variations. It’s a game that, even more than normal Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the chief reason why a once invisible game, has expanded in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha/8 begins like a regular game of Omaha. Four cards are handed out to every player. A round of betting follows where players can wager, check, or drop out. Three cards are handed out, this is called the flop. One more sequence of wagering ensues. After all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, an additional card is revealed on the turn. a further sequence of wagering ensues at which point the river card is flipped. The gamblers will have to make the best high and low 5 card hands using the board and hole cards.
This is where a few players can get flustered. Unlike Texas Holdem, in which the board can make up every player’s hand, in Omaha hi/low the player must use precisely three cards on the board, and precisely 2 hole cards. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot can be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly how it sounds. It is the best possible hand out of everyone’s, it doesn’t matter if it is a straight, flush, full house. It’s the identical approach in almost all poker games.
A low hand is more difficult, but certainly free’s up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. the lowest hand is the weakest hand that might be put together, with the lowest being A-2-3-4-5. Considering that straights and flushes don’t count, A-2-3-4-5 is the worst possible hand. The lower hand is any 5 card hand (unpaired) with an eight and below. The low hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand. When there’s no lower hand presented, the higher hand wins the whole pot.
Although it seems complicated initially, after a few rounds you will be able to get the fundamental subtleties of the game with ease. Since you have individuals betting for the low and wagering for the high, and since so many cards are in play, Omaha 8 or better provides an amazing range of betting possibilities and seeing that you have several players battling for the high hand, as well as several shooting for the low. If you enjoy a game with a considerable amount of outs and actions, it’s not a waste of your time to compete in Omaha 8 or better.
