Gus Hansen had a marvelous year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to achieve last table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You may recall one of the largest pots in high stakes poker history against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Gus has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While gambling on internet poker, another side of Hansen has emerged. Gus often participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and gambles very poorly. He sits there waiting for a good hand and then goes all-in. I know Hansen is a great poker player but certainly not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is penniless, he has little or no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes almost all of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is presumed to be one of the best players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the total amount. I think television can skew our view of the real world at times. The greatest players in the world might be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be seen competing in internet poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha/8 and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his abilities in cash rounds?
