Stu Ungar is regarded by many to the finest No Limit Texas hold em Poker gambler ever.

The 3 time World Poker Champion was born in New York in ‘53 and began playing poker before becomming a teenager.

The young bettor started out betting gin and at the age of 10 had won his primary gin tournament, while on vacation with his mother and father. By the time he turned 14 the small poker genius had become a professional and stopped going to school.

In ‘54 Stu entered the history books by winning ten thousand dollars in a gin tournament without sacrificing a single hand, a record which still stands in New York today.

The fast talking superstar has been compared, in poker terms, to sporting greats like Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant. Stu Ungar had a genuine talent for wagering poker but in spite of his successes in Texas hold’em poker, he preferred playing gin.

Stu once said that there may some day be a better No Limit Texas holdem player than him except he could not see how anyone could ever be a greater gin player.

In ‘80 Stu was put on the world map as one of the finest Hold’em Poker players in the globe when he was crowned World Poker Champion for the very first time. Astonishingly it was the first time he had played in the tournament.

The following year he dismissed any thoughts that it had been luck, by successfully defending his crown. And in 1997 Stu set the record by winning his third World poker championship.

But this poker master also fought with substance abuse and a year after succeeding his 3rd title Stu past away in his hotel room. According to physicians, he had died from cardiac arrest which was brought on by his lifestyle.

Stu had started out with practically nothing but his skill and natural talent for the game which made this poker wonderful a millionaire a lot of times over.
