Following the 1st wagering sequence, the first card is discarded. This tossed aside card is known as the "burn card", and this is performed to ensure there is no dishonestly. The following three cards are then revealed face up on the table. These cards are known as ‘the flop’. Following this, participants can employ the sixth card to form a five-card poker hand.

Another round of betting happens, and in a number of types of games, here is where the bet size increases. There is another round of tossing aside a card, and a last placing of a card face-up on the poker table. This is referred to as the "river". Players can now employ any of the 5 cards on the table, or the two cards in their hand, to create a five-card poker hand.

To finish it up there’s another sequence of betting. After that, all the remaining players start to display their hands. This is known as the "showdown". Obviously, the player who has the strongest hand is the winner. When gamblers have tied hands a splitting of the winnings is considered.
